In this episode the crew gets together to discuss Hulu’s, The U.S. vs Billie Holiday. First we want to say thank your to Andra Day for her phenomenal performance, the Golden Globes got it right. The movie surrounds the story of Billie Holiday and her controversial song “Strange Fruit” which VIVIDLY depicted the scene of a lynching. The song is powerful, and it’s a manifestation of the phrase “the pen is mightier than the sword”, hence its controversy. The film gives us a glimpse as to who Ms. Holiday was (some may say creatively exaggerated) both on, but mostly off the stage. It’s hard to say whether or not this is enjoyable to watch though. There are some traumatic stories told and to the filmmakers’ credit, they are delivered in raw and unfiltered form, which also makes it hard to look away. Take a look let us know what you think.
