In this week’s episode the crew gets together to discuss #Boogie which was the acting debut of the late great #PopSmoke. The movie is about a young #asian #basketball phenom named #Alfred, played by #TaylorTakahashi (#norelation) who transfers schools so he can play and win the championship against another young phenom #Monk played by #PopSmoke. So here’s the thing, the movie seems scattered. None of the stories seemed fully developed. #PopSmoke role throughout the trailers presented him as one of the #protagonists but he was barely in the movie. #Pop bodied his scenes but there wasn’t much to body. We saw glimpses of something special in #TaylorTakahashi but nothing that would be indicative of his true abilities as an actor. The same is true for the love interest #Eleanor played by #TaylourPaige. The film lacked direction and for that seemed to have served no purpose. It was enjoyable to see #Queens, #NewYork, and the fire ass soundtrack that caught the #vybz, that are always #venti by the way, of the city, but beyond that, there wasn’t much here. Many of the #broll footage seemed like they were left over from other movies filed in #NewYork like #Monster (be sure to check out our previous episode on #Monster and all our catalog at truvuepodcast.com #yaboimelvoice).
